PRINCIPAL

Dr. Smith has been involved in education for over 18 years.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies Education with a Minor in English from University of Louisiana at Monroe.  He later pursued his Master’s Degree from Louisiana Tech University and earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Phoenix.

Dr. Smith began his teaching career in Webster Parish as a teacher and ended up in the seat of Principal. He worked in the capacity of English, Social Studies, football coach, softball coach, and his first love Band Director.

He came to Woodlawn and Caddo Parish in 2014 and has enjoyed it. After a stay as Principal of Caddo Middle Career and Technology, he was named Principal at Woodlawn where his heart is with the Knights!

Dr. Smith believes that all children can learn but each learns differently and at different rates.  He believes that with hard work and perseverance we can touch each child in a unique way.  Keeping the atmosphere positive is the key to success as well as keeping the lines of communication open among staff, students, and parents.  He feels that teamwork is the ultimate way a school can be successful in reaching the goal of helping a child attain his or her full potential.

Dr. Smith is a very visible principal and he states that the best part of his job is visiting the students in all areas of the school.  He gets to know every student and every student gets to know him.  Dr. Smith’s motto is “It’s the Woodlawn Way.”

He is involved with many professional and civic organizations, including the Caddo Association of Educators, Louisiana Association of Educators, Louisiana School Executives Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the Mt. Zion CME Church of Minden.
